Dear Ron Bass,
Our borders are now open to unsafe trucks from Mexico, even though it's against the law.
The person responsible for breaking the law and opening the border is Transportation Secretary Mary Peters.
The Teamsters think she should be fired for it. And since we launched our campaign to fire Mary Peters earlier this month, thousands of people are agreeing with us.
WorldNet Daily wondered whether heads would roll because Mexican trucks are allowed in this country. The Huffington Post explained how Mary Peters broke the law. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported our "blistering" radio and direct mail campaign to fire Mary Peters.
Politico noted the Teamsters and environmental groups teamed up to oppose Mexican trucks. The Detroit News and the Arizona Republic carried Op-Eds by Jim Hoffa urging Mary Peters' dismissal.
Our Feb. 12 rally outside of the federal courthouse in San Francisco was big news in California. Teamsters truck driver Mark Sanchez told KCBS-TV that Mexican trucks should meet the same standard as U.S. trucks. Teamsters International Vice President Chuck Mack was interviewed by KTVU-TV saying it's outrageous that the Bush administration opened the border to Mexican trucks. NBC11 repeated our message that Mexican trucks are older, polluting and not as safe as U.S. trucks.
We're awaiting the judges' decision sometime in the next weeks.
Meanwhile, we've had thousands of visitors to our Web site and sent nearly 9,000 letters to Congress.
Lawmakers are hearing us loud and clear. During a hearing earlier this month, three members of Congress told Mary Peters that she is breaking the law.
Now it's time to turn up the volume. Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., will chair a hearing on March 11. The subject: How Mary Peters broke the law. Jim Hoffa will testify. As that hearing approaches, we need you to write or email your senators to ask them to find Mary Peters in contempt of Congress.
By the way, we know Mary Peters' underlings are keeping tabs on our Web site. Let them know how you feel about opening the border to unsafe Mexican trucks. Add comments to our blog postings.
Stay tuned to www.firemarypeters.com for updates.
Help us keep up the pressure to Fire Mary Peters!
