NEWS REPORTS OF SUCCESS

On January 25^th IRON traveled to Sallisaw and honored the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department as the FIRST County to charge illegal aliens under the new HB1804 law.  IRON provided lunch and presented Awards of Excellence certificates in document frames for their offices.   Senator Coburn’s office was represented and several reporters were there.

A grassroots immigration reform group honored law enforcement, jail personal and the district attorney's office Friday.       Carol Helm with Immigration Reform for Oklahoma Now (IRON), a citizens grassroots group from Jenks, presented officers and others with plaques in honor of their efforts in a recent case in which eight illegal immigrants were arrested and deported in early January.  Sequoyah is the FIRST county to invoke charges stemming from HB1804

The arrests of illegal immigrants is overcrowding the county jail, Christine Calbert, jail administrator, said, and is increasing the costs of incarceration, with no reimbursement help in sight  Sequoyah County was the first county to arrest illegal immigrants, most from Mexico, under the state's new law, HB 1804, passed last year. House Bill 1804, the Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007, went into effect in November and takes a hard stance on immigration.      http://www.sequoyahcountytimes.com/articles/2008/02/13/news/afront.txt "It is an unfunded mandate by the state," said Sheriff Philpot. "The state did this, the public wanted this, and in one way or another, you have to pay for it."  Carl Rusnok, spokesman for the ICE office in Dallas, said those who return to their home countries voluntarily are charged with a felony. Rusnok said ICE takes one bus a day from Dallas to the U.S.-Mexican border. Bennett told the Vian Tenkiller News about those arrested in Vian, "many of these passengers had previous felony convictions ranging from drug transporting, vehicle theft, assault, receiving and or selling stolen property, disorderly conduct on a police officer and others including child molestation.  Most had more than one alias. "We have to enforce the law and that's what we are here for, to protect the citizens of Sequoyah County," Bennett said. "One of the passengers in the Suburban made the comment that word was already out that Oklahoma was enforcing their new law and to not travel through our state. This shows that this new law is already working and that we are serious about illegal immigration." Folks, when we see young men such as John Bennett faithfully enforcing our laws, we are encouraged that Oklahoma rests in good hands.   Carol

OKLAHOMA CITY – Welcome to the nation's laboratory for a crackdown on illegal immigration. Last year, Oklahoma 's Legislature passed, by huge margins, the nation's toughest law on illegal immigrants, making it a felony to harbor, transport, shelter or conceal undocumented immigrants.

IF GOP Presidential candidate

Senator John McCain now "gets it" on immigration and border security, HE should fire his campaign's director of Hispanic Outreach, Juan Hernandez.       In Hernandez book, he supports radical positions on immigration which Americans oppose.  (DOESN’T   THAT  MEANS  MCCAIN  AGREES  WITH  HERNANDEZ?) 

Hernandez calls for amnesty for all illegal aliens;

An end to the border between the United States and Mexico; (NAU)

A "North American Union" between Mexico, the United States and Canada;  (SPP)

A nine billion dollar gift each year from American taxpayers to Mexico to "shrink the wealth gap between Mexico and the U.S."   (called making us equal)

Hernandez also says in his book that “the undocumented in the U.S. are not the problem.  OUR small thinking IS the problem?     (Senator McCain actually hired him?)
