Chicago Tribune: October 15, 2005, 1:58 PM CDT
Three activists were arrested Saturday in Arlington Heights as they protested a meeting of the Chicago Minuteman Project, a new group that opposes illegal immigration.  Police said the three had assaulted police officers who were trying to keep order.  About 120 police officers with riot gear and police dogs were summoned from other suburbs to restore order.   The protesters arrested were part of a group that included dozens who identified themselves as members of socialist, anarchist and anti-war groups.

....On the campaign trail, Foley fights to focus on attacking Republican corruption. But he frequently finds himself addressing voters' concerns about the influx of undocumented workers from Latin America into the town.  The issue is a tricky one for Foley who says he still hews to the Democratic ideals of President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal and President John F. Kennedy's Great Society.   In 2001 as a Suffolk legislator,  Foley proposed that the county award Catholic Charities a grant to build a "shape up" center for day laborers in FARMINGVILLE who gather on street corners seeking work.  Foley maintained that it would have alleviated traffic and addressed residents' quality-of-life concerns.  But, he emphasizes that no such proposal is in the works for the county or the town now.  Alleges 'race-baiting'  Foley has said it is the federal government's responsibility to curb illegal immigration. He has accused the Republicans of waiting until an election year to crack down on illegal housing. Foley has also accused Hennessey of "race baiting" for distributing literature offering a threatening view of undocumented workers.

Long Island, NY: ....... On his way out after the candidates' forum, Hennessey  came face to face with perhaps the main issue dogging his campaign. Standing in the doorway, an angry constituent stopped Hennessey to grouse about undocumented immigrants.  "Let me tell you something, there's forty Mexicans ..." the constituent said, his voice rising as he named an address. "And you never even called me back." He refused to give his name. "You talk a good line, but I hope you lose."  The candidate calmly told the man his staff had found no code violations at the address.  The controversy surrounding day laborers - who often live in crowded rental homes in Brookhaven communities - is one of two issues pulling Hennessey off message in this race. The other - GOP corruption - surfaced minutes earlier during the Wednesday night forum.

Memri.org - Alongside the numerous documents posted on Islamist websites on how to prepare various types of explosives, "An Encyclopedia for the Preparation of Nuclear Weapons" has recently appeared on such websites. The "Encyclopedia" was posted on October 6, 2005 on the Islamist forum Al-Firdaws ("Paradise"), by someone whose nom de guerre is Layth Al-Islam ("The Lion of Islam"). A link to a slightly different version appeared on October 9 in a Yahoo! discussion group called " mujahedon." The "Encyclopedia," which contains nine lessons in approximately 80 pages in Arabic, was published under the title "The Nuclear Bomb of Jihad and the Way to Enrich Uranium" and was presented as "a gift to the commander of the Jihad fighters, Sheikh Osama bin Laden, for the purpose of Jihad for the sake of Allah." The "Encyclopedia" was published as "a scientific research by Jihad Fighter No. 1," who wrote: "For the past two years, I have been studying nuclear physics through various scientific forums and Jihadist forums. Similarly, I have been studying the technology of missiles and various types of explosives and explosive devices."
