American Citizenship Is Precious
by Phyllis Schlafly  Oct. 12, 2005
Rep. John Hostettler (R-IN) presided at a House hearing last week on Birthright Citizenship, Dual Citizenship and the Meaning of Sovereignty. It's unfortunate that this important subject received little media coverage.   The statistics are shocking. At least 383,000 babies are born in the United States every year to illegal aliens; that's 10 percent of all U.S. births and about 40 percent of indigent births.   The cost to the U.S. taxpayers is tremendous because all those babies, called anchor babies, claim birthright citizenship. Their mothers and other relatives then sign up for a vast stream of taxpayer benefits.   At least 12 million persons now live in the United States illegally. In addition, smugglers operate a thriving business of bringing in pregnant women from all over the world just in time to give birth and claim citizenship and citizens' benefits.
Why does the United States allow this racket to continue? Congress has failed to do its duty to protect American citizenship, sovereignty, and taxpayers.

LETTERS TO EDITOR  Chicago Tribune, on immigration reform: Oct. 9... Immigration reform is like a puzzle with five extraordinarily difficult pieces to fit.   The first is the scope of the problem: What does the U.S. do with the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants already here, assuming we are not going to put them in freight trains and run them out of the country? Second is the demand by some business sectors--the agricultural industry comes to mind--for low-wage workers. Third is congressional concern with law enforcement. The presence of so many illegal immigrants demonstrates to some that laws are either unenforced or unenforceable. Fourth is fear of a terrorist attack carried out by foreigners on our soil.    The toughest one, though, is the fifth: politics. A top-to-bottom reform of immigration faces strong headwinds both in Congress, particularly in the president's own party, and among voters, who have no patience for anything that smacks of "amnesty" for illegal immigrants. ...  The bipartisan proposal getting a hearing at the White House now could break the impasse over reform. ... It recognizes the obvious--there are millions of immigrants in the U.S. who are illegal and living beyond any scrutiny or control.  Illegal immigrants would get work visas good for six years, but would have to prove they have a work history in this country, no criminal record, and that there is nothing in their background that makes them a security risk. ... If this all falls into place--a huge if--businesses would get their workers, undocumented workers would gain legal status, and the nation would get better border security. ...  chicagotribune.com

Rule of Law or Dis-rule of Law?

By Frosty Wooldridge

Boulder's illegal alien sanctuary policy becomes deadly for Colorado citizens.  On Wednesday, September 21, 2005--living in Boulder, illegal alien Francisco Montero-Elizalze, driving with a suspended license from a DUI, and after having been stopped nine separate times for DUI, four times by Boulder police, and not carrying any vehicle insurance--turned into and killed Lafayette resident Dale Englerth at 55th and Valmont. Montero did not speak any English and needed an interpreter.  Boulder police arrested him, did not check him with an "IAQ" which would have determined his illegal status--and then, released him a day later at 10 percent for $350.00 on a $3,500.00 bond.  He was not eligible for a bond having killed someone in an accident.  He carried a counterfeit green card and social security card when picked up by the Bureau of Immigration and Enforcement eight days later. Does anyone wonder why Boulder police didn't act on the counterfeit ID's? Montero worked at Karen's Painting in Lafayette, which is against federal law.

What confounds Colorado citizens stems from gross incompetence by Mark Beckner's office in that Boulder police released this illegal alien without an "IAQ" query to determine his immigration status.  Montero was cut loose on bond when he shouldn't have been released because his 'accident' resulting in death was not bondable. He could have skipped off to Mexico like Gomez.  Today, knowing that Montero is an illegal alien and carrying forged ID documents-- normal practice would be to revoke Montero's bond and take him back into custody for vehicular manslaughter.  He needs to stand trial as an illegal alien on federal criminal charges as well as face up to killing Dale Englerth of Lafayette.

The greater tragedy stems from the fact that a sanctuary policy in Denver got Officer Don Young killed with a bullet to the back of the head last spring by illegal alien Raul Gomez.  Gomez had been stopped three times without a license or insurance and cut loose three times.  In Boulder, eight women were raped two years ago by illegal aliens who ran off to Mexico--yet Boulder Mayor Toor and the current mayor and city council still support the sanctuary policy.  Which, in federal law, is in violation of USC 8--1324:274, 275, 276.

The one serious negative aspect of the 250,000 illegal aliens in Colorado stems from the fact that they come from Mexico and other Third World countries where corruption is a mechanism by which their societies function.  The more of them we allow in our state, the more we suffer the consequences of lawless behavior.  This is why so many illegals that come here--obtain fake Social Security numbers, fake green cards, run red lights, drink and drive, illegally register for welfare, commit voter fraud, register their cars from one state to another to avoid mandatory auto insurance, go to the hospital using a fake name, buy items on credit using their brother's name who now back in Mexico, refuse to learn English, and bear children with no means of supporting them. They do this because they model what they do in their culture.

According to a 2004 report by Federation for American Immigration Reform, "Breaking the Piggy Bank: How illegal immigration is Sending Schools into the Red," illegal alien children as well as anchor babies (children of illegal aliens) in Colorado--cost taxpayers in this state a whopping $564.1 million last year.  Boulder's and Denver's sanctuary policies encourage that horrific drain on our tax dollars as well as the degradation of our classrooms from language chaos. In the May 16, 2005 issue of the Rocky Mountain News, "What Happened?"--in 1999, 5,663 students started 8th grade in Denver Public Schools. In 2005, only 1,884 graduated. That's over a 65 percent drop out/flunk out rate. Behind that figure, fifty languages are spoken by illegal alien kids and one in five teachers quits or transfers out of the classroom in the nine months cycle. No wonder education suffers in Colorado.

A group of us petitioned Governor Owens to stop the sanctuary policy and declare a state of emergency in Colorado like they have in Arizona and New Mexico.  This is our state, our educational systems, our taxes, our laws and our society that is being invaded by illegal aliens from Mexico. It will stop because Coloradans are sick of this lawlessness resulting in death to our citizens as well as destruction of our educational systems.

P.S. What we found out from BICE by Wednesday of last week:

1. Francisco Montero-Elizalze is now in ICE custody in Denver and being
processed for deportation.
2. He was in jail in Boulder on charges arising from a traffic accident
on Sept. 21 in Boulder wherein he killed a young motorcyclist while driving
with a suspended license.
3. Montero was arrested the following day, Sept. 22, and then released
on bond the next day, Friday, Sept. 23.  We do not know the amount of the
bond.
4. He was released from Boulder on bond and Boulder waited seven days
to call ICE at 4:00 PM Friday, Sept. 30th to tell them he had been released
and that he may be illegal. This was the first time ICE heard of the case.
5. ICE went out and found the man at his home Saturday morning and
arrested him on immigration charges. He was at home and preparing to go to
work.  He had been free for eight days.
6. He was employed at Karen's Painting in Lafayette, which was
evidently verified by Boulder police.
7. He had in his possession at the time of arrest three counterfeit
documents-a Social Security card, a green card, and a Mexican driver's
license form the State of Jalisco. All were good quality counterfeits that
probably cost about $250.
8. It is not clear whether he also had a Colorado driver's license on
suspension, and if so, how he got a Colorado license in the first place.
9. Monterio reportedly had nine prior arrests for DUI and driving with
a suspended license. Again, how he got a license in the first pace is not
known.
10. According to ICE, Boulder did NOT do an "IAQ" query with ICE to
determine if Montero was an illegal alien. They released him without doing
that immigration status check.
11. ICE has done a background check and sees no prior immigration
violations for Montero.
12. ICE has notified Boulder authorities that he is in custody, that he
is definitely illegal. Normal practice would be for Boulder to now revoke
bond and take him back into the Boulder jail.
13. If Boulder does not re-arrest him for trial, he will be deported
back to Mexico -- without a felony conviction.
14. Denver Police spokesperson Julie Brooks has been telling our
Centennial office (Morgan Boyles) all week that they did not know his
immigration status. She never volunteered the fact that Montero was released
on bond on Sept. 23. She called today to tell us Montero "was picked up by
ICE in Boulder yesterday," which is not possible because he has been in
custody at ICE for the past five days-- since last Saturday.
