WITHDRAW MYERS [as head of ICE] - By Michelle Malkin
The editors of
National Review also come out against the Julie Myers nomination.   Excerpt follows:
Given the importance of the position and a history of mismanagement in the immigration service, Congress took the unusual step of inserting a statutory requirement that nominees have a minimum of five years of experience in both management and law enforcement. Even a cursory reading of her resume reveals that the well-connected 36-year-old attorney’s background fails to comply with this legal requirement; in fact, she meets the bare minimum only by counting her current stint as head of White House Personnel, where she manages, by her own account, “up to three deputies as well as support staff and interns."   "...Her nomination highlights the administration’s desire to keep immigration enforcement on a short leash, lest some rogue official embarrass the White House by actually enforcing the immigration law.

9/11FSA recommends Michael Cutler, former senior special agent who recently retired after three decades at INS, to head ICE. (More on Cutler at The Counterterrorism Blog. See left sidebar for bio info.) He or Pete Nunez would make excellent, seasoned, pro-enforcement choices.

COMMENTS ON ARTICLE Iowa lawmakers to hear immigrants' concerns, September 25, 2005
Please read the article first:
Dana Boone, DesMoinesRegister.com, http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050925/NEWS10/509250346/1001/RSS01.

Dear Ms. Boone,

The contents of your article were so outrageous and sickening that I could barely finish reading it.  The pandering to illegal aliens by your state government is unconscionable.  When do the American citizens whose lives have been damaged by the crush of illegal aliens, 'get a place at the table' to be heard by the Iowa legislature?  When will their opinions 'shape the future of Iowa?'

Does the government of Iowa have any idea how scorned they are for so blatantly encouraging illegal aliens to enter,  reside and work in their state?  Do the members of the Iowa legislature understand that they are engaging in illegal acts by 'aiding and abetting' aliens to break our immigration laws?  Do they know that they are guilty of committing a crime?  Does the state of Iowa and its legislature have no shame?  As a reporter you need to ask those questions.

Your state legislature must be really ill-informed to be so blatant about facilitating illegal aliens.  Their plans expressed at the public meeting border on lunacy!  How clever they were to MIX the legal and illegal aliens with the crime issues by calling them all 'newcomers.'  But it didn't fool me, nor will it fool other intelligent, knowledgeable people!

Re:  Alex Orozco , who immigrated [legally?] to Iowa from Mexico City in 1999, is glad to hear it. He plans to tell the committee that Iowa must do more to protect immigrants, including undocumented immigrants, from crimes.

What Mr. Orozco forgot to mention is that the illegal aliens bring the crime with them.  And, if there wasn't a government supported demand for 'cheap labor' in Iowa, there would be no human trafficking!

BEWARE what you ask for, Iowa legislature!   The contributions of the 'new' Iowans to the state will be a whole lot less than they TAKE from your state in the form of health care, welfare, public benefits, school costs, anchor babies, hospital closings, subsidized housing, depressed wages, overflowing jails and the degradation of the quality of life for ALL Iowans.

It is clear that the legislature and governance of Iowa has 'no clue' about what is happening in the rest of the country concerning illegal aliens.  They appear to have 'no clue' about what the future portends for their state if the legislature goes forward with their plans to pander to illegal aliens.  They appear to have 'no clue' that they are committing a crime by encouraging illegal aliens to come to, reside and work in Iowa.  If they did, they wouldn't be promoting the agenda outlined in your article.  Their intent is disgusting, inappropriate, egregious and beyond all rational reasoning and understanding!   - Daneen Petersen -
