Jim Gilchrist, candidate for the CA 48th District Congressional Election on Oct. 4th and founder of the civilian border watch Minuteman Project, enjoyed a tremendous welcome by rank-and-file Republicans at the California GOP Fall Convention this weekend in Anaheim, CA!
Jim was embraced enthusiastically by hundreds of Republican and conservative activists throughout the Convention events, wearing his Gilchrist for Congress campaign lapel stickers, waving Gilchrist campaign signs, and stopping by his Minuteman exhibition booth to endorse his efforts.
Republican Party faithful flocked to Jim to commend him for his patriotism and dedication to America in founding the Minuteman border watch movement, and to encourage his campaign in holding the Republican Party accountable to its grassroots – and its Reagan Platform – on national security, national sovereignty, and immigration law enforcement.
Jim spoke to numerous GOP Convention break-out meetings, and his straight talk about our border crisis and the need for bold new political leadership was warmly received by the activist base of the California Republican Party. The urgent imperative to act to defend America’s borders and communities against the terrorism threat, organized crime and illegal alien sedition was widely acknowledged by those attending the GOP gathering.
A recent Field Poll and other surveys indicate that MORE THAN 80% of Californians know that illegal immigration is a major crisis – and the #1 issue in this election. Dear Fellow American,
Please take just one minute to look at this picture of me on "Border Patrol" in Arizona earlier this year.
Our government is AWOL on its Number #1 responsibility! You're now being told you cannot protect your person or your property or your town. You're being told you cannot insist our laws be enforced, and if you do you're a racist. You're being told citizenship doesn't matter, that our government refuses to protect you, and you can't do a thing about it.
What I'm talking about is the total failure by our federal government to control the flood of illegal immigrants crossing our borders -- illegal migrants who include vicious gang and international crime cartel members AND Middle East terrorist cell members.
That's why I'm writing you. Because this dereliction of duty starts with the irresponsible and cavalier attitude of our elected officials in Washington, and it's not going to change until some of them suffer the political pain of defeat for their failure to protect American security and sovereignty -- right here at home!
I don't know if you have been seeing us on TV or read about us in the paper... but simply by creating a watchful presence on our porous national border, the U.S. Minutemen are helping to dramatically cut back the number of illegal aliens flooding into our country.
Our volunteers have proved beyond any doubt that securing our border with Mexico is only a matter of manpower and political will.
That's why I am so proud to be a founder of the Minutemen movement.
Of course, being a leader of the Minutemen has also had its personal costs. Liberals and the media call us all sorts of names for our patriotic efforts - "racists," "hate-mongers," "vigilantes" and worse.
So why am I doing it?
Because I am completely fed up with the Federal government's unwillingness to protect our borders.
And as a Minuteman, I have a chance to personally make a difference -- to improve our national security, and protect our national sovereignty. Because of the success of the Minutemen movement, today I also have an opportunity to make another important difference.
And so do you.
You see, President Bush recently decided to appoint my local Congressman - Rep. Chris Cox of California - to become the new head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
That means that with Chris Cox confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the SEC, there will be a special election here to send a new representative to Congress.
At the urging of many friends and supporters, I've decided to run for Congress in this special election.
And I'm hoping I can count on your help:
My friend, the Minutemen are volunteers who use their talents to make a crucial difference for America. Some are retired police officers. Others are former members of the U.S. military, like I am. Many are just ordinary Americans ready to commit to an important cause.
And all, in their own ways, have stepped up to the plate and stood tall as Minutemen.
My hope in writing you this letter today is that YOU will consider stepping up to the plate for me. That you will stand with me as a member of my campaign team.
My friend, running for Congress is a daunting task. It takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money.
I know that to run a successful campaign I'm going to need the support of literally thousands of patriotic Americans like you from all over our nation.
Americans who support the Minutemen.
Americans who will now support me.
My platform is very simple.
That's pretty much it.
Doing what it takes to stop illegal immigration from ruining our ordered liberty through lawlessness and crime...
... winning the war on terror...
... cutting taxes...
... and protecting our values.
