Missoula District Court: Jury pool in marijuana case stages ‘mutiny’
A funny thing happened on the way to a trial in Missoula County District Court last week.
Jurors – well, potential jurors – staged a revolt.
They took the law into their own hands, as it were, and made it clear they weren’t about to convict anybody for having a couple of buds of marijuana. Never mind that the defendant in question also faced a felony charge of criminal distribution of dangerous drugs.

“Border security is homeland security and our border is not secure,” Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a Tucson Democrat recently said.
Right now Yuma appears to be the only one of nine border patrol regions under ‘operational control’. Last year, agents caught 6,951 immigrants, down dramatically from 138,492 in 2005.
Why the success here? Out of 126 miles, 110 miles is fenced. That’s backed up by multiple cameras, mobile radar units, and 950 agents, triple the number in 2005. Also the area has zero tolerance for illegal entry. Entering with U.S. without authorization can land an illegal immigrant in jail for up to 6 months. Most jurisdictions are too busy to handle the thousands of these small cases. But in Yuma, everyone goes to jail, a major deterrent, says Beeson.

Trusted Traveler Program Sparks Fears That Mexican Drug Cartels Could Bypass U.S. Airport Security
Mexican citizens will soon be eligible to apply for a "trusted traveler" status that will allow them to bypass some elements of airport security when they fly into the United States — a U.S. government-approved program that critics say could be exploited by violent drug cartels.
Under the program, Mexicans who have undergone background checks and are deemed low security risks will be able to fly into major U.S. cities and breeze through customs without being questioned by U.S. Customs agents.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and her Mexican counterparts announced their intent to roll out the program two weeks ago, trumpeting it as evidence of increased information sharing and law enforcement collaboration between the countries.
But critics say Mexico's drug cartels will quickly learn how to exploit loopholes in the plan, and they point to the recent arrests of two pre-vetted "trusted travelers" caught trying to smuggle marijuana and other contraband into the U.S. through a Texas border checkpoint.

House Republicans are split over a forthcoming bill that would deny citizenship to so-called "anchor babies" --children of illegal immigrants who are granted citizenship by dint of being born in the U-S.

PHOENIX - Two people were arrested and more than a hundred protesters were separated by police Saturday in downtown Phoenix.
Dane Edward Rossman, 23, and Bryan Wayne Reavely, 24, were arrested for throwing rocks at police officers at the National Socialist Movement march, according to Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department.

In 2007, the Missouri General Assembly approved HJR 7 to place on the ballot a proposed constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri. Voters then went to the polls and approved the measure with nearly 90 percent voting in favor. With that, English became the official language for all governmental proceedings in Missouri. It also means no individual has the right to demand government services in a language other than English. A common language is the cornerstone of a cohesive and united state and country. Ensuring that English is our official language is simply common sense.
