Dear Senator,
I am outraged that the House passed H.R. 2454, the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade tax. This bill will impose enormous economic costs, destroying millions of jobs and forcing the prices of gasoline and electricity to, in the words of the president, "skyrocket." There are also hundreds of outrageous special-interest pork-barrel provisions that were added in the desperate scramble for votes as the bill ballooned to over 1500 pages. Nobody has read this bill.
The strong bipartisan opposition in the House shows just how broadly it will negatively impact the country. Cap-and-trade is a massive new tax on American families and American businesses. It's especially crazy to pass such a huge new tax burden at a time when many families already face economic hardship.
Advocates of cap-and-trade now claim the costs will be minimal, but you should know better, because the whole point of it is to make fossil fuels so expensive that we won't be able to afford to use them.
I therefore urge you to strongly oppose Waxman-Markey and any similar cap-and-trade legislation that may be proposed in the Senate, and urge you to sign the NoClimateTax.com pledge to make clear in writing that you will not support any global warming bill that hides a tax hike.

Our president and congressional leaders now seek to control Earth's climate by capping carbon emissions in the United States—even as they fail to perform their constitutional duty by capping the flow of contraband crossing our border from Mexico.
