 This is nothing that the Federal government has done. Rather, the Maricopa County Attorney and Sheriff Arpaio have figured out that if you start jailing illegal immigrants for their crimes they don't like it and they're less likely to come back. What a concept! It just takes a will to get the job done and the fortitude to buck the activists' age-old line "they're just coming here to make money". Yes, and people sell drugs, enter into prostitution, rob banks, cheat on their taxes, and commit assorted other crimes to "make money". The other popular activist line that "they're contributing to the economy" has been debunked time and time again. Illegal aliens cost far more than they contribute. Billions more. They only succeed in making a few greedy businessmen rich. We predict that Maricopa County's actions against illegal immigration will send a message to Mexico and will do more to keep people from attempting to sneak into this country illegally through Arizona than anything the Federal government is doing. As you can see from this interview, illegal aliens actually prefer to be arrested by the Border Patrol so they can get their free hamburger, rest up, enjoy an air-conditioned bus ride to Nogales, and come back the next day. It's shameful that a county government has to pick up the ball and run with it because our sorry "leaders" in the Federal government are too scared to do anything. If one of our "leaders" had half the intestinal fortitude that Arpaio and Thomas have we wouldn't be in this huge mess. What Maricopa County is doing is called "DETERRENCE" federal "leaders". Is anybody listening? It's called "SENDING A MESSAGE". Show them you're serious about enforcing the laws, quit making excuses for them, quit encouraging them with promises of amnesty, and they'll think twice about committing more crimes. Time-tested and simple law enforcement strategy. Don't hold your breath for any such program in any other county in Southern Arizona. Most are run by illegal alien apologists. 06-27-06
