Thursday, April 30, 2009, I attended a subcommittee hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship, Chairman, Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
Time has passed by like a whirlwind; it has already been two weeks since Chris Simcox announced his candidacy for the United States Senate. Along with his announcement, comes my appointment as Chair of MCDC. I am proud and privileged to take the helm of an organization that I co-founded with Chris nearly 8 years ago. Although, we have accomplished many things, there is still a great deal to do to secure our borders and remain a safe, secure nation.
I am up for the challenge and need you, our dedicated activists, to lend your support as we continue our grassroots movement. WASHINGTON D.C. UPDATE: Thursday, April 30, 2009, I attended a subcommittee hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship, Chairman, Chuck Schumer (D-NY). The topic for the hearing was: "Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2009, Can we do it and how?"
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) made it clear that you, the American People, are ready to bring these illegals out of the shadows and onto the pathway to Citizenship! Of course, he would want you to believe this, because he helped pass the first amnesty in 1986 and has really never stopped working against the interests of our hardworking American citizens.
Only one person on the panel, Kris Kobach, Chairman, Kansas, Republican Party, spoke out with a clear opinion why it would not be advisable to allow illegals to the path of citizenship.
He addressed Senator Schumer with this question:" Let us say you have a criminal who stole money, went to jail, did his time and got out. You would not award that criminal with the money he stole would you? Well, you would not want to reward illegal aliens who have taken something from the American people by breaking into our country with the path to citizenship?" Kobach was awarded the White House Fellowship in 2001 to work for Attorney General John Ashcroft. Once the fellowship ended, he stayed on as Counsel to the Attorney General.
Senator Schumer did not seem to care for Kobach's opinion when asking the rest of the panel, " I won't even ask you because you think that all of this is amnesty anyway." Kobach replied, "Senator Schumer, no matter how you turn it, your way of going about it still gives the rest of us precisely that impression." However, folks, I walked out of there knowing and also hearing it from the rest of the panel that it will not be easy to pass a bill of comprehensive Immigration reform. You know why? Summary:
We need to be ever more vigilant as a grassroots activist movement. Our Democratic Congress wields a great deal of power; however, with your help we can work together to turn the tide and bring common sense back into our government. As a legal immigrant to this country, I am not willing to sit by while our nation rewards criminals/thugs by giving them citizenship. I AM willing to have a discussion on how to keep our nation safe and secure while Mexico is having a meltdown. The growing violence posed by the drug cartel in Mexico has already spilled over into our boarder communities - I know as I live in a border town. The recent swine flu scare reminds us that WE MUST KNOW WHO IS COMING INTO OUR COURNTY AND FOR WHAT REASON. Please visit our website often as we continue to grow MCDC into the largest grassroots activist movement working on behalf of border security. Your involvement as an activist, and as a financial supporter, enable us to continue our work. Please join us by making your contribution today. In Defense of our Country, I remain, Carmen Mercer, President
